New Style of Work!

This year I have been going in a new direction in my work. I have been creating more gallery work then production. The clay I have been working with is Low Red Earthenware, and I have been carving and burnishing the surface of my pots. The imagery I have been using is inspired by Mik'maq designs from quill work patterns. Here are some photos of my new work.

Pit Firing At Dan's Place!

I had 4 pots and tried different material such as soda ash, epsom salt, coffee, copper wire and sawdust each pot was wrapped in newspaper. The 2 smaller pots were placed into coffee cans. We started the fire around 1 O'clock and fed the fire for about 3 to 4 hours with wood.

The next day the pots were revealed!

A couple of the pots came out alright but nothing too exciting. But this was just to test the materials I placed on the surface of the pots. It was Good Times!
